Helping with maths at home

It is vitally important to remember this when it comes to thinking about maths.  All children can be good at maths, no one is 'maths smart.'  Mathematics is not about remembering a bunch of knowledge and regurgitating this.  It is about developing knowledge in authentic ways and using this knowledge to solve problems.  Maths is not about speed, children need to encouraged to think differently about problems and notice maths all around them.  It is vital that children take their time when developing new knowledge to ensure it is consolidated.  This visual is a great one!
